Things You Need To Know About Joining a Sorority

Joining a sorority can be a lot of fun – okay, a whole lot of fun. Your whole life, you’ve probably heard stories, watched movies or read stuff about sorority girls and how crazy their life is on campus.  However, it is important to know what life is really like for a sorority girl – just so that you don’t give your hopes up. First off, being a sorority girl is a lot of fun, but you have to know some tips and tricks to navigate the sorority life in a way that doesn’t ruin the experience for you.

Here are five things you need to know about joining a sorority…

1. It can be hard to get in. Most sororities have a very selective process. It is not like they will just choose anyone. Usually, you have to be prepared for a pledge week. The girls of a certain sorority will basically make you do all these ridiculous and embarrassing things to see if you are ready for the sorority life.

2. Living in a sorority house can be insane. If you want to join a sorority to get out of living in the dorms, you may be sadly let down, because living in the actual sorority house will be like a non-stop party. Just imagine non-stop music, screaming, people talking and lots of noises. Oh yeah, and you can basically kiss your privacy goodbye.

3. You have to balance social life with school life very carefully. Because you will be doing a lot of socializing, you will have a really hard time balancing your social life with your school life. As a sorority sister, you usually have to attend a lot of events and you have to do things to with your other sorority sisters, so getting some homework or studying in can be a challenge.

4. It is a commitment. In some cases, you have to agree to spend all four years in college at a sorority. Basically, you really have to want to become a sorority sister if you want to join a sorority. If you are sort of doing it for the experience, or if you don’t really have a reason why you are doing it, you may want to pass on the whole sorority experience.

5. It costs money. Yes, you have to pay a monthly fee and then an annual fee to be a sorority sister. Usually, these costs go to the upkeep of the house, rent, and all the other stuff that it takes to run a sorority house – including events. If you are strapped for cash, you may want to think about not joining a sorority and save your money.

I mean, sorority girls are often popular and talked about, but that doesn’t mean you will be popular just by becoming a sorority girl. There is a good chance that if you just be yourself, you’ll be just as popular – it is college after all.
